There is a strong connection between my heritage and what I create. As someone who grew up in Mexico and came back to the United States in search of a better future, there is a constant feeling of longing and missing the life I had. In my work, I constantly reflect aspects of my culture as a way to connect with my heritage and to share about the place that helped me grow into who I am. My creative work is influenced by the vibrancy and warmth of my culture with a spark of childlike imagination within the depths of my newfound adulthood, as I tell the stories of my life experiences through caricature. A metaphoric form of representing the uncanny of complex emotions or situations in a visual story. There is an underlying narrative in my pieces that create a bridge between the untold and what I like to create as a new reality.
Although working on a project may not be as linear as brewing a potion, it always feels like magic finishing something that took lots of work and dedication. This video is a representation of my creative process.
